WASHINGTON – Students in five rural Arkansas schools have additional computers to use thanks to U.S. Senator John Boozman’s (R-AR) participation in a program that channels surplus computers into classrooms across the country.

The U.S. Senate’s Computers for Schools program helps public schools stay connected in the digital age by donating computers no longer used in the Senate for use in their classrooms.

“This is a great opportunity to put surplus equipment to good use and help Arkansas students develop their computer skills and connect them to technology at the same time. Providing Arkansas schools with the resources students rely on to advance their education and improve their success in a global economy is important to preparing our students for the future,” Boozman said.

The following schools are recipients of five computers each:

  • Lee High School in Marianna
  • County Line School in Branch
  • Lafayette County High School in Stamps
  • Mammoth Spring School District in Mammoth Spring
  • Bradley High School in Bradley

Officials at the schools that received the computers offered their thanks and support.

Willie Murdock, Superintendent for Lee County School District: “Thank you on behalf of the students and staff of the district. It was truly a wonder-filled and welcomed surprise. It was like opening a surprise gift. We want to thank Senator Boozman and his staff for thinking about our students who are so often left out.”

Taylor Gattis, Superintendent for County Line School Superintendent: “County Line School is very excited to receive the computers. We are going to be able to replace a classroom lab with computers that have a more current processor and updated ram and hard drives. We would like to thank Senator Boozman for thinking of our school for this donation.”

Robert Edwards, Superintendent for Lafayette County High School: “The School Board, students and staff are very appreciative of Senator Boozman and his generous efforts to keep technology current at Lafayette County School District. I know our students will benefit greatly from the donation. Working together, there is no limit as to what we can achieve in the lives of our young people.”

Joy Underwood, Technology Coordinator for Mammoth Spring School District: “The Mammoth Spring School District would like to thank Senator John Boozman's office for the generous donation of computers for use in our classrooms. These computers will replace some of the outdated computers that are currently in our elementary classrooms. We only have a handful of Windows XP machines left on our campus and this will help alleviate the security risks that they impose.”
