WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman today announced that the Macedonia-Dorcheat Volunteer Fire Department will receive $361,247 from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program to purchase fire-safety gear and equipment.
“Keeping our communities safe starts with equipping our first responders with the necessary gear and equipment,” stated Pryor. “This grant will allow the Macedonia-Dorcheat Volunteer Fire Department to stay safe and better protect lives and property in Columbia County.”
“We need to work to provide our rural first responders with the resources they need when called to protect the community,” Boozman said. “These funds will provide the Macedonia-Dorcheat volunteer firefighters with the necessary equipment they need to stay safe when called to an emergency.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program provides fire departments and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) organizations the tools and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel. In Fiscal Year 2012, DHS AFG Program awarded approximately $337 million directly to local fire departments and EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards.
