WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) released the following statement after the Senate considered two competing tax cut measures today:

“American families, small businesses and employers face a crippling tax increase at the first of the year unless Congress acts to preserve current tax rates. Raising taxes in this economic climate is bad policy. Instead of rolling up our sleeves and making tough decisions to rein in out-of-control spending, Majority Leader Reid’s solution is to raise taxes on already overtaxed Americans. We need a common sense answer in this weak economy and that starts with extending current tax policy. Failing to maintain the tax rates on American families and small businesses will further slow our economic recovery and continue to erode the fiscal cliff our economy is facing.”

Editor’s Note: Boozman supported the Republican amendment which would extend current tax rates for all Americans for one year. That amendment failed. Boozman voted against final passage of the Democrat bill which included job-killing tax hikes on small businesses. That bill passed the Senate 51-48.
