WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators John Boozman and Tom Cotton along with Congressman Steve Womack today announced that the Fort Smith Regional Airport will receive nearly $592,000 in grant money from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to be used for fire fighting equipment.
The $591,785 grant will be used to purchase a new 1,500 gallon Index B Aircraft Rescue and Fighting (ARFF) vehicle and four fire protection suits to assist the airport in meeting safety requirements.
“This is an important investment in Fort Smith that will allow the airport to meet transportation demands and safety standards,” Boozman said. “This airport is important to economic development in the region and providing the tools and safety equipment necessary to meet regulations is vital to its continued success.”
"This grant is great news for Fort Smith,” Cotton said. “Going forward, it is imperative the airport has the equipment it needs to continue to serve as a critical engine of economic growth for the community."
“In an area with as much economic promise as Fort Smith, a thriving regional airport is key, and I am proud to join with my colleagues to celebrate this grant,” Womack said. “It is yet another building block to continued prosperity for Fort Smith.”
