Arkansas River Flood 2019 Recovery Resources and Information

Arkansas has been granted a Major Disaster Declaration. Counties available for Individual Assistance (Assistance to individuals and households) - Arkansas, Conway, Crawford, Desha, Faulkner, Jefferson, Lincoln, Logan, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Sebastian and Yell. Counties available for Public Assistance (Assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities) - Conway, Crawford, Faulkner, Franklin, Jefferson, Logan, Perry, Pulaski, Searcy, Sebastian and Yell. All areas in the State of Arkansas are eligible for assistance under the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

The following resources below can help you during the clean-up and recovery process, Keep in mind that you should document any and all property damage and loss as that information will be helpful should you need to obtain formal assistance.

Homeowners in Need of Federal Disaster Assistance

Residents who are homeowners in Arkansas, Conway, Crawford, Desha, Faulkner, Jefferson, Logan, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Sebastian and Yell counties whose homes and property were damaged or uninhabitable may be eligible for federal disaster assistance. The first step is to contact your insurance company. You have to file a claim through your homeowner's or flood insurance policy before you can get help from FEMA. 

Next, you need to register with FEMA for assistance. To do so:

  • Go to www.disasterassistance.gov or
  • Call 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585 (TTY). Consider applying for a low-interest disaster loan if you are a renter.

Information about low-interest SBA disaster loans and application forms are available online at SBA.gov/disaster. You may also call 800-659-2955 or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. If you use TTY, call 800-877-8339.

Renters In Need of Federal Disaster Assistance:

Residents who are renters in Arkansas, Conway, Crawford, Desha, Faulkner, Jefferson, Logan, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Sebastian and Yell counties whose homes and property were damaged or uninhabitable may be eligible for federal disaster assistance. There are federal grants that can help pay for temporary housing. Disaster survivors may be eligible for housing assistance grants that could include rental assistance and temporary lodging reimbursement. Also, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers low-interest disaster loans to help Arkansas renters repair or replace disaster-damaged personal property, including automobiles.

Small Business Administration (SBA)

SBA opened a Business Recovery Center in Fort Smith on Friday, June 14th to provide a wide range of services to businesses impacted by the severe storms and flooding that began May 21, 2019.

For business owners who are unable to visit the business recovery center, you may apply online using SBA’s secure website at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/elaThe deadline to apply for property damage is Aug. 7, 2019. The deadline to apply for economic injury is March 9, 2020.

  

Beware of Scams

Avoid being taken advantage of during the recovery process. Dishonest individuals have been known capitalize on natural disasters by preying on victims. Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutlegde offers consumer protection tips for disaster victims so you can avoid these scams. 

If you suspect fraud, call local law enforcement of report it to the FEMA Disaster Fraud Hotline: 866-720-5721.

Tax Relief 

In early June, the Internal Revenue Service announced that individuals who reside or have a business in Arkansas, Conway, Crawford, Desha, Faulkner, Jefferson, Logan, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Sebastian, and Yell counties may qualify for tax relief. Learn more here
