Boozman: "Our Veterans Deserve Better"

Supports VA Improvements

Jun 11 2014

WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) reaffirmed his commitment to ensure veterans receive the high quality services they earned by voting in support of The Veterans’ Access to Care through Choice, Accountability, and Transparency Act of 2014.

Prior to Senate passage, Boozman called on his colleagues to support improvements to veterans’ access to health care during a speech on the Senate floor.

“The VA is struggling to meet the health demands of our veterans,” Boozman said in the speech. “The department needs to be held accountable for its shortcomings.”

“We need to restore faith in the VA health system and that begins with accountability and following through with our promises,” Boozman said. “The crisis surrounding the VA health care system shows an immediate need to improve timely access to medical care for our veterans. The VA needs to correct the systemic problems that are preventing our veterans from accessing the high quality health care services offered.”

Boozman is leading efforts to ensure our veterans have access to reliable, timely, and the highest-quality health care. Today, Boozman sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder urging the Department of Justice to join in the Inspector General’s investigation in the misconduct of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) employees. He called on the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to provide documentation about wait times and data manipulation at VA medical facilities that serve Arkansas’ veterans and he joined minority members of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee requesting the Chairman hold more VA oversight hearings.
