WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) acknowledged the efforts of the students who served Arkansasas as interns in his Washington office this summer.

“These sharp and motivated students have been a great help to the people of Arkansas during their time in Washington. I appreciate their dedication to helping my staff address issues concerning Arkansans and providing vital services. They truly have taken advantage of the unique opportunities available to them in our nation’s capital,” Boozman said

Mia Cruz, Landon DeKay, Shea Franklin, Brian Huang, Jack Kincannon, Randall King, Makena Mesenbourg, Leah Sanders and Claire Tebbutt completed a five-week internship in Senator Boozman’s Washington office. Constituent relations were their primary duty. Additionally, they assisted the legislative and communications teams with various aspects of their work. Each intern was also afforded the chance to shadow the Senator, a unique opportunity giving them rare insight into the inner workings of the U.S. Senate. 

Mia Cruz is from Orlando, Florida. She graduated from Tohopekaliga High School in 2019 and is a rising senior at Florida State University, where she studies finance and management information systems.

Landon DeKay is a Maumelle, Arkansas native who now lives in Arlington, Virginia. In 2021, he graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he majored in political science. He is now a rising second-year law student at the George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School.

Shea Franklin is a 2018 graduate of Pottsville High School. This fall, she will graduate from Arkansas Tech University with a bachelor of science in biomedical biology. 

Brian Huang is a Fayetteville, Arkansas native. In May, he graduated from the U.C. Berkeley College of Letters & Science with a bachelor of arts in economics and a minor in public policy.  

Jack Kincannon graduated from Southside High School in Fort Smith in 2019. He is a rising senior at the University of Arkansas, where he is studying data science with a minor in finance.

Randall King is a 2013 graduate of MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas. In 2017, he graduated from Hendrix College where he played football and studied political science. He recently graduated from the Clinton School of Public Service with a Master of Public Service degree.

Makena Mesenbourg is from Charleston, South Carolina. She graduated from First Baptist High School in 2019. She currently attends Anderson University where she studies political science and communications. 

Leah Sanders graduated from Kingwood High School in Houston, Texas. She recently graduated from Southern Arkansas University where she studied history, English and education in addition to running cross-country and track.

Claire Tebbutt started her interenship in the Boozman office during the spring semester. She  graduated from Cabot High School in 2019. She is a rising senior at Georgetown University, majoring in international culture and politics and minoring in disability studies.
