WASHINGTON –Magnolia teen Victoria Maloch took in the sights and sounds of the nation’s capital as she joined more than 100 other students from across the country in participating in the United State Senate Youth Program.

Maloch, a junior at Emerson High School, is the daughter of former Arkansas Representative Bruce and Martha Maloch.

“Having the opportunity to experience how our government works first hand is a great way to apply what I’ve already learned in the classroom. I’ve had the opportunity to see and hear from the people who are influential public servants and create the laws and policies of our country. This has been a great experience that allowed me to meet many new people and I’m encouraged to purse a future in public service,” Maloch said.

Senator John Boozman (R-AR) met with Maloch during her visit to the U.S. Capitol and recognized her participation in this prestigious program in the Congressional Record, the document that reflects the official proceedings of Congress.

The following are the remarks delivered by Boozman in the Congressional Record:

Mr. President, I rise today to recognize Victoria Maloch from Magnolia, Arkansas for being selected for participation in the annual United States Senate Youth Program.

Created in 1962, the United States Senate Youth was organized to encourage an understanding of our government with an emphasis of how its three branches work and how elected officials work for their constituents and create policies that impact our nation and the world. The weeklong visit to Washington, D.C. allows students to meet and interact with lawmakers, appointed officials and staff who are involved incrafting legislation and making decisions that influence our laws.

This program brings together some of our nation’s top youth leaders, like Victoria, who show a commitment to public service. An outstanding student at Emerson High School, Victoria excels both in and out of the classroom.

She serves as president of the 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America; vice president of Arkansas Junior Brangus Breeders Association; secretary of the Science Club and captain of Quiz Bowl. Victoria is a member of the Beta club, Future Business Leaders of America, and Family Career and Community Leaders of America. She was a People-to-People ambassador and volunteers in her community with the Youth Advisory Council and Today’s Youth Tomorrow’s Leaders program. Victoria plans to attending the University of Arkansas and continue her education in law school.

Victoria is very deserving of this honor. I want to congratulate her for her determination, dedication and service and encourage her growth as a leader.
