WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-Arkansas) issued the following statement on Senate passage of a two-week continuing resolution to prevent a government shutdown:

“While I would have preferred a long-term response, the passage of this stop-gap measure at least ensures that essential services for Arkansans are not cut off, while addressing the need to reduce spending. We are not out of the woods yet. We still have to address this issue with a sincere commitment to a fiscally responsible solution, one that puts us on the right path for future budget cycles.”

“However, it is unfortunate, that once again, we find ourselves in a situation where we have to pass a short-term answer to a long-term problem. The failure of Congress to pass appropriations bills last year, much less propose a budget, is a failure of leadership that only exasperates our current financial dilemma.”
