Pryor, Boozman, Griffin Announce Funds for St. Francis House to Help Homeless Veterans Find Employment
Jun 01 2011
WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman, along with Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-2) today announced that the St. Francis House, a homeless shelter in Little Rock, will receive a $106,071 Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program Grant under the U.S. Department of Labor. The funds will be used to provide job training for homeless female veterans and veterans with families.
“The unemployment rate among veterans remains stubbornly high, and that’s unacceptable,” Pryor said. “This grant is one small way we can help homeless veterans find a job and get back on their feet.”
“Homelessness is a serious problem amongst our nation’s veterans. We need to ensure that our veterans have access to the assistance and tools they need to confront the challenges of the current economic environment,” Boozman said.
“As a military veteran and a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I know the sacrifice veterans have made to defend the freedom we enjoy. We have an obligation to serve those who have served, and I am proud that St. Francis House has received this funding to help homeless veterans and their families find work,” Griffin said.
The Homeless Female Veterans and Homeless Veterans with Families Second Year Funding will be used to maintain St. Francis’ Homeless Female Veterans and Veterans with Families Program, which provides employment services to help veterans secure employment and housing. The U.S. Department of Labor awarded the funds after St. Francis House demonstrated that they were able to administer an effective program.
