WASHINGTON D.C. –U.S. Senator John Boozman today supported a bill to help the U.S. Postal Service dig out of its financial hole.

“The U.S. Postal Service is facing severe budget problems and needs options for reform. This bipartisan supported bill provides good guidance for the postal service to get back on its feet without cutting the practical access to a post office. In rural states like Arkansas, small communities rely upon the existence of the post office and this is an effort to ensure Arkansans have the best access to mail delivery.”

In 2011, the USPS identified nearly 200 post offices in Arkansas to be studied for closure then imposed a moratorium on closures to allow Congress the opportunity to find a solution that will benefit Arkansans and the USPS.

S. 1789, the 21st Century Postal Act, passed the Senate 62 to 37.
