WASHINGTON –U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman today announced that the Jasper Fire Department will receive a $370,300 grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program to improve their operations and safety.

“Local firefighters are instrumental to the safety of our communities,” Pryor said. “This grant will give the Jasper Fire Department the training and equipment they need to safely and effectively respond to emergencies, protect property, and save lives in Newton County.”

“This investment will play an important role in protecting Jasper citizens,” Boozman said. “This grant provides tools our firefighters need to protect their safety while responding to emergency situations.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) provides fire departments and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) organizations the tools and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel. In Fiscal Year 2012, DHS AFG Program awarded approximately $337 million directly to local fire departments and EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities to fire and all other hazards.
