WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR)- a member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry - voted on Thursday to support bipartisan legislation that provides consumers with information about their food and prevents costs from increasing at the grocery store.

“Arkansas families shouldn’t face an increase in grocery bills as a result of a law that was crafted by the state of Vermont. This legislation provides consumers with more information about the foods they buy and ends the confusing and costly patchwork of state biotechnology labeling mandates,” Boozman said.

This legislation is supported by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Farm Bureau Federation.

“The Arkansas State Chamber joins the U.S. Chamber and the Farm Bureau Federation in supporting this bill. It is a common sense approach to the issue and will prevent imposing a patchwork quilt of state by state regulation of food labeling. We appreciate Sen. Boozman’s leadership on the matter,” Randy Zook, president and chief executive officer of the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Arkansas said.

"The American Farm Bureau supported this legislation because it is important to prevent the proliferation of a patchwork of 50 state laws dealing with the labeling of food," Randy Veach, Arkansas Farm Bureau president said.
