WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) released the following statement supporting calls for ending the diversity visa lottery program:
“Our immigration policy must reflect the fact that our nation faces very real security threats. The diversity visa lottery program does not meet that threshold. That’s why I have long supported efforts to eliminate this program.
In this day and age, there is no reason to continue a program that uses a random lottery rather than merit-based criteria to make selections. This is especially true when we have groups like ISIS looking to exploit our immigration system to attack Americans at home.
I appreciate the President’s leadership on this issue and will work with my colleagues to end the diversity visa lottery program while pushing immigration reform that focuses on the safety and security of the American people.”
