Senator Boozman testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in support of Kristine Baker’s nomination as United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas. The following is Boozman's statement as prepared for delivery.

Thank you Chairman Leahy and Ranking Member Grassley for allowing me to speak at this important hearing today. I am proud to be here to introduce and support Kristine G. Baker’s nomination as United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Arkansas.   Her extensive experience and her impressive background unanimously qualify her for the position of District Judge.

First I would like to acknowledge Kris’s family here in attendance today to support her.  Her husband John, a life-long Arkansan, and four children, Keeling, Andrew, Jackson & Caroline.  I know they are awfully proud of their wife & mom.

Born in Colorado Springs, CO, Kris moved to the state of Arkansas in 1994.  She received her J.D. from the University of Arkansas School of Law, where she ranked 3rd in her class and was Articles Editor for the Arkansas Law Review, a member of the Board of Advocates, and a member of the University of Arkansas’ First Amendment National Moot Court Team.

Upon graduation from law school, Kris clerked for Judge Susan Wright, then-Chief Judge of the Eastern District of Arkansas.

In 2000, Kris joined her current firm, Quattlebaum, Grooms, Tull & Barrow, where she is now a partner.  Her practice has been devoted to litigation on a diverse range of topics including allegation of deceptive trade practices, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, and fraud.  She also handles First Amendment and Freedom of Information Act issues and has been received several awards and accolades, including being recognized in Commercial Litigation in Chambers and Partners' America's Leading Lawyers for Business; listed with The Best Lawyers in America® in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Litigation – First Amendment,  Litigation – Labor & Employment, Employment Law – Individuals, Employment Law – Management, and Labor Law, and named Best Lawyers’ 2012 Little Rock Litigation – First Amendment Lawyer of the Year.  She was also named a Rising Star by Mid-South Super Lawyers in the area of Business Litigation for the years 2008 – 2010, and was recognized as an emerging business leader in the Forty Under 40 list published by Arkansas Business in 2010.

Kris has extensive jury trial experience and has also served as counsel in a variety of non-jury trials and arbitrated matters.  She is a member of Pulaski County Bar Association’s Volunteer Organization Center for Arkansas Legal Services and devotes significant time each year to pro bono cases.

An active member of her community, Kris is involved in and affiliated with charitable organizations such as Presbyterian Village, Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church, Dress for Success Little Rock, and the March of Dimes.

One of the most important things that we do in the Senate is the confirmation of judges- the process of selecting people with the right temperament and qualifications.  I believe Kris Baker will do an excellent job and that we will all be proud of her future service on the bench.  I congratulate her on her nomination and strongly support her confirmation.  Thank you.
