WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) released the following statement after Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM), proposing to repeal of President Obama’s “Clean Power Plan (CPP)”:

“Administrator Pruitt is right to rollback these misguided regulations. The so-call ‘Clean Power Plan’ is all pain and no gain. I applaud the Trump administration for taking the first formal steps necessary to repeal it.

The Obama administration circumvented Congress and the American people to unilaterally mandate policy that it could not pass legislatively. Congress rejected this idea for a reason—heavy-handed carbon rules have a very negative impact on Americans, while ignoring the significant progress that has been and will continue to be made.

Every Arkansan would see higher energy costs as a result of these regulations. That pain would hurt low-income families and seniors living on a fixed-income the most. Our economy as a whole would take a hit, as industries would move overseas leaving American workers behind and creating foreign factories that emit far more than any in here would.

By rescinding these regulations, the Trump administration will help keep energy costs down for Arkansas families and protect jobs here at home.”
