WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) announced his subcommittee assignments for the Senate Appropriations Committee. Boozman will serve as the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee. He will also serve on the subcommittees of Commerce, Justice, Science; Military Construction and Veterans Affairs; State, Foreign Operations; Transportation, Housing and Urban Development.
“I’m committed to leading efforts on making difficult decisions on how taxpayer dollars are used. Serving on these committees will allow me to work toward responsible government spending and putting our country back on the path of fiscal responsibility,” Boozman said.
Financial Services and General GovernmentThe subcommittee oversees funding for financial-related agencies including the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The subcommittee is also responsible for recommending funding for independent agencies that have a direct impact on Arkansas including the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the U.S. Postal Service.
Commerce, Justice, Science
The subcommittee has jurisdiction over annual funding for a number of federal agencies including the Department of Commerce, the Department of Justice, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Marshal Service.
Military Construction and Veterans Affairs
This subcommittee directs funding for military construction efforts for all branches of the military including Guard and Reserve Forces. It also recommends funding for veterans’ benefits and programs.
State, Foreign Operations
This subcommittee is responsible for funding foreign aid, Department of State programs including programs supporting efforts to fight terrorism and stem the flow of nuclear weapons, President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and USAID.
Transportation, Housing and Urban Development
The subcommittee has jurisdiction over annual funding for the Department of Transportation and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Other agencies the subcommittee is responsible for funding includes the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
