FORT SMITH, ARKANSAS— With inflation at a 40-year high, skyrocketing energy costs and major challenges to the supply chain, U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) has launched a series of conversations with Arkansas business leaders to hear how these economic hardships are impacting their operations.

In roundtable discussions in Van Buren and Russellville on Tuesday, Boozman discussed how the Biden administration’s partisan priorities have stalled economic recovery and created additional struggles for small businesses.

“President Biden’s reckless tax-and-spending policies have resulted in historic inflation rates and Arkansas families and small businesses are facing the consequences. The president’s partisan agenda has forced them to stretch their budgets even further, make accommodations due to the damaged supply chain and face trouble filling job openings. Unfortunately, the Biden administration’s hands-off approach to these crises has job creators spinning their wheels, but I will continue advocating for policies that encourage investment, job growth and expansion so we can provide business owners the predictability and certainty they need to plan for the future,” Boozman said.

The National Federation of Independent Business recently reported 22 percent of small business owners indicate inflation is the biggest problem for their operations. The labor shortage has led to trouble hiring and continues to be another top concern.

“The dynamic and fluid challenges of Covid, inflation and supply chain issues are increasingly impacting our families and businesses and we are all wondering how long this will continue. This event with Senator Boozman allows for a direct exchange of information that is crucial to championing the most effective corrective polices and solutions. We sincerely appreciate Senator Boozman taking the time to hear us and providing our community with his insight and perspective on these important topics,” said Jay White, Vice President of Plant Operations at Pepper Source Ltd.

“Even in a strong economy like we have in Van Buren, our businesses are facing the significant challenges of supply chain disruptions and inflation. We appreciate Senator Boozman’s proactive engagement and partnership with our business community to better understand these challenges and to work with us on policies to support our businesses,” said Julie Murray, President and CEO of the Van Buren Chamber of Commerce.

“Every time we’ve called on Senator Boozman to help our industries, he has. We are grateful to have his ear and support for the current challenges businesses are facing in the region,” said Paul Harvel, President and CEO of the Russellville Area Chamber of Commerce.

Boozman will meet with members of the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce to further discuss challenges facing Arkansas business owners on Thursday.
