Boozman Seeks Continued Improvements to VA Health Services

Meets with VA Secretary Nominee

Jul 16 2014

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR), a member of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee said that he appreciates Acting VA Secretary Sloan Gibson’s efforts to restore trust to Veterans Health Administration (VHA) but asked for continued and lasting improvement to the care our veterans earned.

In a statement for the official record, Boozman said “We all know about the cultural challenges that have been exposed at VA and that culture must change in order to prevent past tragedies from happening in the future. We also must work to better protect whistleblowers who are doing their part to bring integrity back into the system. I am thankful for the efforts of all our colleagues on behalf of bettering the VA health care system and look forward to continuing to work with the Acting Secretary and his team to swiftly move forward together.”

Prior to the committee hearing, Boozman met VA Secretary nominee Robert McDonald.

“We had a productive meeting. Mr. McDonald understands the important reforms that must be implemented to meet the needs of our veterans. His background in business management and dedicated service to our country would be a welcome addition,” Boozman said.

The Senate VA Committee will hold a nomination hearing next Tuesday.
