President Trump continued the American tradition of offering a State of the Union Address to the nation.

Like his predecessors, the president was invited to address a joint session of Congress by the Speaker of the House, to deliver remarks to senators, congressmen, cabinet and military officials, members of the Supreme Court and guests –– all gathered in the House of Representatives chamber where policy debates and votes are taken. Thanks to technology, the event is broadcast nationally and streamed globally.

Throughout the years, the State of the Union Address has been redefined from an annual update to a prime opportunity for the leader of the free world to frame the past and chart the future. What was once a hand-penned letter has become a highly anticipated political and cultural event and in 2026, there was much success to recall and celebrate from the last year.

This year’s address maintained this standard; from the Olympic gold medal winning-men’s hockey team appearance amid chants of “USA,” to awarding Congressional Medals of Honor, Purple Hearts and a Legion of Merit to brave servicemembers and reuniting a former political prisoner from Venezuela with his niece, there was no shortage of high-profile, exciting moments.

Beyond the TV-worthy scenes and special recognitions, the president focused squarely on recapping landmark policies implemented during his first year back in office and goals for the years ahead.

The Republican agenda is helping Arkansans keep more of their hard-earned paychecks while bolstering national security and protecting communities from dangerous threats including crime and drugs. Congress is working closely with the administration to deliver on these priorities through the Working Families Tax Cuts and other policies that reduce burdensome regulations, unleash domestic energy and support those defending us at home and abroad.

We prevented a $2.6 trillion tax hike and made our tax code even more pro-growth with provisions such as no tax on tips or overtime and permanent relief for small businesses. After years of raging inflation under the Biden administration, our economic policies are finally bringing down costs: gas prices have fallen, mortgage rates are dropping, wages are rising faster than inflation and new investments arebeing made that will create more jobs and stimulate expansion and opportunity.

The president’s leadership also secured a once-in-a-generation $68 billion investment in agriculture. Modernizing and updating the farm safety net for this industry that has faced years-long challenges to its viability was critical, and we will continue our efforts to ensure families who feed, fuel and clothe the world have the resources they need to ensure a bright and strong future for rural America.

The administration has also prioritized restoring law and order, with Congress delivering additional tools and resources that help our law enforcement personnel carry out their duties. As a result, violent crime is declining and efforts to remove dangerous and criminal illegal aliens are making our communities safer.

There were many more accomplishments highlighted, including renewed American leadership and strength on the international stage. But the backdrop for this year’s State of the Union was our country’s 250th birthday. It is fitting to hear the commander-in-chief inspire and call upon all Americans to celebrate what makes us great and carry that spirit for generations to come.
