JONESBORO – Riceland Foods, Inc. honored U.S. Senator John Boozman (R-AR) with its ‘Friend of the Farmer’ award for his commitment and dedication to the Arkansas rice industry.

“As the number one producer of rice in our country, Arkansas has a unique role in the industry. This is a testament to the skill and hard work of Arkansas’s rice farmers, and I am proud to support and fight for policies that give our farmers the opportunity to succeed,” Boozman said.

Boozman, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, was recognized for crafting provisions in the current Farm Bill that enable farmers to manage risk and for his work to promote trade with Cuba to open new markets for Arkansas’s rice producers. During this Congress, Boozman has worked to ensure rice farmers are treated fairly by our trading partners. He also pressed Secretary of State John Kerry to improve trade relations with the Iraqi Grain Board (IGB) because the IGB was purchasing more expensive rice from other countries over lower cost, higher-quality American rice.

“Every time we have called on Senator Boozman to help with a rice issue, he has stood up for Arkansas rice. In doing so, he has proven to be a friend of the farmer and we are pleased to recognize his work with Riceland Foods’ 2016 “Friend of the Farmer” award,” Bill Reed, Riceland Foods, Inc. senior vice president of corporate communications and public affairs said.

Boozman spoke about the importance of the Arkansas rice industry in a speech marking National Rice Month on the Senate floor in September.
