WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator John Boozman today issued the following statement after the Senate voted on five separate budget proposals:

“We need to develop a way forward that puts us on the path to fiscal responsibility. These proposals serve as a starting point for the discussion on reining in reckless spending so we can eliminate the blank check philosophy championed by President Obama and Majority Leader Reid.

While no plan is perfect I voted to bring two proposals to the Senate floor for further debate that offer responsible spending solutions and protect important programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. These are reasonable approaches to balancing our books and to fixing the spending mentality of this administration.

With no formal budget passed by the Senate in three years today was another demonstration of the majority’s failure to offer its own budget proposal and guide us to sound financial footing. Instead we are being led to the edge of a financial cliff.”
