WASHINGTON D.C. - U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman today joined a bipartisan coalition of senators to urge Secretary of State John Kerry to approve the Keystone XL pipeline within the first quarter of the year. In the letter, the senators called on Kerry and President Obama to provide the public and other stakeholders with a definitive process for approving the project, which has now been under review for nearly four and a half years.

“We can’t afford to wait on the Keystone any longer. Without action, Canada will look west and we’ll miss a valuable opportunity to decrease our dependency on foreign oil and ensure our future energy security,” Pryor said. “That’s why I hope the State Department will act swiftly to approve this project and create thousands of jobs here at home.”

“Every day we wait for the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline we put our economy and national security at risk,” Boozman said. “We can’t keep stalling this valuable project that will provide jobs for hardworking Arkansans. With increasing gas prices we need additional and reliable sources of energy.”

The letter was signed by ten Republican and ten Democrat senators including Senators John Hoeven (R-North Dakota), Max Baucus (D-Montana), Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Mark Begich (D-Alaska), John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Kay Hagan (D- N.C.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.), David Vitter (R-La.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.)
