WASHINGTON D.C.- U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and John Boozman, along with Congressmen Tim Griffin (AR-2) today announced that five Arkansas airports will receive over $2.9 million from the Federal Aviation Administration for airport facility upgrades and improvements.
“Arkansas airports are a driving force of our economy, bringing new businesses and jobs to all corners of our state,” Pryor said. “These funds will help our airports stay up-to-date so they can continue to support economic development and provide safe and reliable transportation for Arkansans.”
“These funds will improve efficiency, safety and transportation at Arkansas airports,” Boozman said. “These important investments in our state’s infrastructure will help support economic development and job growth.”
“Improving Arkansas's infrastructure is essential for economic growth, and this funding will provide needed facility upgrades to make our communities more accessible and enhance safety in air travel to and from Arkansas,” said Griffin.
This funding is supported by the FY14 omnibus appropriations bill, which was signed into law in January. The airports receiving funding are as follows:
• Blytheville: Blytheville Municipal Airport will receive $227,673 to install perimeter fencing, which will prevent unauthorized persons and vehicles from entering onto the airfield.
• De Queen: J Lynn Helms Sevier County Airport will receive $44,370 to support the engineering design phase of the new parallel taxiway project. This construction will eliminate the need for aircraft to back-taxi on the runway.
• Morrilton: Morrilton Municipal Airport will receive $380,500 to install perimeter fencing, which will protect the airport from unauthorized and inadvertent entry and wildlife hazards.
• Little Rock: Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport will receive $1,815,289 for drainage improvements to help the airport adequately handle storm water runoff.
• West Memphis: West Memphis Municipal Airport will receive $446,534 to rehabilitate the apron, which is needed to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement.
